The power of categorization and simplicity.
I can never comprehend the concept of having to organize and reorganizing or even having to throw useless/unwanted things out on a constant basis, especially when these wise words are coming from my loved ones repeatedly. At times, it is hard for one to understand till they actually experience it and reap benefits from it.
It is hard for most of us as we need a lot of determination to make the first move and having the motivation to keep it going.
It was tough for me when I started moving out from my apartment in Buffalo and begin my travel journey from there. The hassle of having to clean my whole room and to squeeze everything into 2 medium size luggage was not enough. I had to throw away so many things.
In the midst of packing, I had realized that I had owned so many redundant items. Why do I have so many clothes when I used only 20% of it? Why do I buy books when I hardly read it? Why do I own so many stationeries when I used only a few of my favorite ones? Then I paused. It is a question of practicality versus variety.
Since then, I stick to this theory - The theory of “One luggage”. Everything that I owned, have to fit into this one and only luggage. If I would to decide in buying anything, I would have to give up one item, so that I can fit the new one in. Furthermore, constantly cleaning and organizing allows me to reevaluate the things that I need.
